## Key figures at a glance

| Fact | Value | Source |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Incomplete-month pay | Monthly gross ÷ total working days in the month × days worked — For monthly-rated full-time employees. Both counts include public holidays on a working day. | [MOM](https://www.mom.gov.sg/employment-practices/salary/monthly-and-daily-salary) |
| Working day | More than 5 hours worked — 5 hours or less counts as a half day. | [MOM](https://www.mom.gov.sg/employment-practices/salary/monthly-and-daily-salary) |
| Gazetted public holidays a year | 11 — Plus a Monday in lieu when a holiday falls on your Sunday rest day. | [MOM](https://www.mom.gov.sg/employment-practices/public-holidays) |
| Default rest day | Sunday — A 5.5-day week counts each Saturday as half a day and a 6-day week as a full day. | [MOM](https://www.mom.gov.sg/employment-practices/salary/calculate-pay-for-incomplete-month) |

## Paying a part month: step by step

Use this when someone joins or leaves mid-month, takes no-pay leave or does reservist training.

1. **Confirm it is an incomplete month** (First) — It applies when the employee starts after the 1st, leaves before the last day, takes no-pay leave or is on reservist training in that month.
2. **Count the total working days in the month** — Count the scheduled work days under the employee's work week. Rest days and non-working days are out; public holidays that fall on a working day stay in. Tools: [Singapore Working Days Calculator](https://toolsg.com/en/working-days-calculator)
3. **Count the days actually worked** — Count the scheduled days from the first to the last day of work. Public holidays, paid hospitalisation leave and annual leave the employee is entitled to count as worked; no-pay days do not.
4. **Apply the formula** — Monthly gross rate of pay ÷ total working days in the month × days worked. Use the gross rate: basic pay plus fixed allowances, without overtime, bonuses or reimbursements.
5. **Work out CPF and take-home pay** (After the pay is fixed) — Use the part-month figure as the month's wages when you work out CPF contributions and take-home pay. ## Two different counts

The calculator gives two numbers from the same dates, and they are not meant to match.

| | Public holidays | Used for |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Working days between two dates | Deducted (if you tick the box) | Project timelines, notice periods, leave planning |
| Total working days and days worked in the MOM formula | Included | Pay for an incomplete month |

MOM includes public holidays in both parts of the pay formula because the employee is paid for them. Deducting them from the denominator would overpay; deducting them from only the days worked would underpay.

## Worked examples

| Case | Working days in month | Days worked | Pay at S$4,800 |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Joins Thu 15 Oct 2026 | 22 | 12 | S$2,618.18 |
| Joins Mon 9 Nov 2026 (Deepavali in lieu) | 21 | 16 | S$3,657.14 |

In the second case the Monday is a public holiday. It counts as a day worked for pay, but a "working days between 9 and 30 Nov" count with the deduction on is 15, not 16.

## Public holidays on weekends

A holiday that falls on a Sunday is moved to the Monday only if Sunday is your rest day. The calculator uses the Monday in-lieu dates from the [public holidays](https://toolsg.com/en/public-holidays) list. A holiday on a Saturday is deducted only if Saturday is a working day in your week (half a day on a 5.5-day week).

## Common mistakes

- Dividing by 30 or by calendar days. MOM's formula uses working days.
- Deducting public holidays from the working days in the formula.
- Using basic pay when allowances are fixed and part of the gross rate of pay.
- Forgetting that the 5.5-day and 6-day weeks have more working days per month than the default.

## Frequently asked questions

**How does MOM calculate salary for an incomplete month?**

Monthly gross rate of pay divided by the total working days in that month, multiplied by the days actually worked.

**Are public holidays counted as working days for incomplete-month pay?**

Yes. MOM includes public holidays that fall on a working day in both the total working days and the days worked.

**Does this calculator deduct public holidays?**

Only for the working-day count, and only when the box is ticked. The pay calculation never deducts them, following MOM.

**What happens when a public holiday falls on a Sunday?**

The next Monday is a public holiday in lieu, and it is deducted like any other holiday.

**Which years have public holidays built in?**

2026 and 2027, as gazetted by MOM. Other years are counted without holiday deduction.

**How is a 5.5-day week counted?**

Monday to Friday count 1 each and every Saturday counts 0.5, as in MOM’s working-days table.

**Is the start date counted?**

Yes. Both the start date and the end date are included.

**How do I handle no-pay leave?**

Reduce the days worked by the unpaid working days in that month, then apply the same formula.

**Does the monthly salary include allowances?**

Use the gross rate of pay: basic salary plus fixed allowances, without overtime, bonuses or reimbursements.

**Are my dates or salary stored?**

No. Everything is calculated in your browser.
