What changes on 1 January 2027

Gantry-based ERP charging ceases on 31 December 2026, and ERP 2 launches on 1 January 2027. ERP 2 uses satellite technology and an in-vehicle On-Board Unit (OBU), so physical gantries are no longer needed. All Singapore-registered motor vehicles must have an OBU. The congestion pricing framework does not change, and ERP rates continue to be reviewed quarterly.

Foreign-registered vehicles

The OBU is not mandatory for foreign-registered vehicles. They could install one from 1 April 2026; the OBU costs $158.70 including GST for foreign motorists until 31 December 2026.

From 1 January 2027, a foreign-registered vehicle that enters Singapore without an OBU pays a flat-rate ERP fee for the number of ERP operational days during its stay:

Vehicle Flat fee per ERP operational day
Motorcycle $3
Car and all other vehicles $10

Which days count

ERP operates from Monday to Friday and does not operate on Saturdays, Sundays or public holidays. On the eve of some major holidays ERP stops at 1 pm; that day is still an operational day. The calculator uses the gazetted 2027 public holidays, including in-lieu Mondays.

Until 31 December 2026

Gantry-based ERP continues. Foreign-registered cars can pay a flat $5 a day through an Autopass Card, and other foreign-registered vehicles need an IU. Without an IU there is a $70 penalty for each operating gantry driven through. The IU is being phased out by the end of 2026.

What this guide does not cover

The fee is worded as each ERP operational day the vehicle travels on Singapore roads. The calculator counts every operational day from the day you enter to the day you leave, so it shows the most you would pay. It does not cover per-location ERP charges (reviewed quarterly), OBU installation, or the rules before 2027.

Common mistakes

  • Using the flat fee for a vehicle with an OBU. The flat fee is for vehicles without an OBU; with one, the usual ERP charges apply.
  • Counting weekends and public holidays. There are no ERP charges on those days.
  • Applying the 2027 fee to a 2026 trip. Until 31 December 2026 the current rules apply.
